Lightning Shield Monitor

Thing Type 422, Lightning Shield Monitor is a monitor that gives the player the Lightning Shield upon destruction. When a player has this shield, any rings near them are attracted to them. Additionally, the shield protects the player from electrical damage. When a player with this shield presses the Spin button in mid-jump, they will do a second jump similarly to the Whirlwind Shield, except the player remains in a spin state. Even as a character that normally cannot spin like Amy Rose or Fang, the shield's ability puts them in a spin state, although this does not allow them to roll under narrow gaps. Unlike the Whirlwind Shield, the Lightning Shield's double jump cannot be used after falling or jumping on springs. Aerial Garden Zone is the only level in the game to feature this shield.

Like the Attraction Shield, the Lightning Shield is destroyed when the player is submerged in water, unless the player is invincible, or is Super. Because the shield is destroyed before the player is hurt, they will lose their rings in damaging liquids even when carrying a Lightning Shield.

Checking the Ambush flag turns this monitor into a Weak Random Monitor, while checking the Special flag turns this into a Strong Random Monitor. Neither of these are recommended however as both WRMs and SRMs can't spawn Lightning Shield Monitors.

This Monitor type also comes in a gold variation, Thing Type 452, Lightning Shield Monitor (Respawn), which will give the player the Lightning Shield once popped, before respawning after about 3 seconds. SRB2 itself does not use the Lightning Shield Monitor (Respawn), but it is still available for custom maps.
