Sonic the Hedgehog is the main protagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and the titular character of Sonic Robo Blast 2. After believing he truly defeated the villainous Dr. Eggman on the Ring Satellite, his relaxation was abruptly interrupted by the doctor's return and quick destruction of Greenflower Mountain. Sonic's abilities give him great speed but may be difficult to control at first, which makes him best suited for advanced players.
Abilities and techniques
Of the three starting characters, Sonic has the most difficulty getting around hazards due to his lack of vertical ascension. His double-jump ability is the thok, named after the characteristic sound it makes. The thok gives the player a burst of speed, which is useful for clearing wide gaps and automatically giving acceleration. Because he cannot gain any height aside from jumping, some areas will be inaccessible to him, so he must find other routes around them. The thok allows Sonic to be proficient when it comes to monitor bouncing, a technique where Sonic bounces off a monitor or badnik and gains more height. This is Sonic's best way of moving vertically.
Like most of the cast, Sonic is also able to use the spindash by pressing the spin button for a few seconds and then releasing. This spins him into a ball and shoots him forward at high speeds, dependent on how long the button was held. He can also roll into a ball when pressing the spin button while running. Spinning restricts Sonic's movement sideways, but it allows him hurt enemies and roll down slopes for more speed. Spindashing is useful in CTF for quickly escaping with a flag in straightforward stages. It's also helpful at the start of Race or Competition, so Sonic can exceed early on in the race.
Sonic is not a beginner-friendly character, thanks to how tricky his speed is to manage. However, more skilled players can master his speedy exhilarating playstyle with precise usage of his thok and management of his speed. He's a good character for running through stages quickly, or acting as a rushdown character in ringslinger modes.
Super Sonic
When given all 7 Chaos Emeralds and 50 rings, Sonic can become Super Sonic by jumping and pressing spin in the air. As Super Sonic, his speed and jump height are increased, and he is completely invincible to everything except drowning, death pits, and getting crushed. Super Sonic is also able to float in mid-air by holding spin, although if Super Sonic is to ever come to a stop, he will fall. However, while Sonic is Super Sonic, his ring count is depleted by one ring every second. Once they reach zero, Sonic turns back to normal, making him vulnerable to everything he once was. Sonic cannot turn into Super Sonic while holding a shield.
When using god
as Super Sonic, his colors change to resemble Hyper Sonic from Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
