SRB2 Top Down is a source code modification for Version 2.1 of SRB2 that is being developed by Kart Krew who are also making SRB2 Kart, another source code modification.

Development
SRB2 Top Down was revealed/announced by CoatRack on the SRB2 MB on the 22nd of September, 2013.
- Most Flats and Textures used are made by Kart Krew just for Top Down.
- A Demo is currently planned to be released.
Gameplay
Gameplay in Top Down is different from the gameplay in SRB2, encouraging teamwork instead of just running ahead of everyone.
The camera is shared between all players promoting teamwork in Top Down and it has a key role in the gameplay with it's new Top Down perspective. If a player runs off-screen they will be brought back to the other players floating in a bubble.
Levels
There is currently five Zones, one Boss level and a Hub level confirmed.
Checkered Mountain Zone
Checkered Mountain is the first Zone in Top Down, the Zone consists of the players going up the mountain.
Frozen Factory Zone
Frozen Factory is a level that has lots of ice and frozen areas.[3]
Stormy Streets Zone

Stormy Streets takes place in a city called South City[6] in the middle of a storm.
Mainframe Metropolis Zone
Mainframe Metropolis[7]
A Boss by CoatRack
This Boss is currently the only known Boss in Top Down. It currently has no known name and is being made by CoatRack.[8]
Weather Factory Zone
Weather Factory[9]
Weather Factory is set in a floating factory in the sky, which controls the weather for the land below. It features giant fans that blow the players away and clouds that players can bounce on.
The level has both parts that take place inside and outside of the factory, each with their own unique gimmicks. The inside parts have the machines that produce the weather and large amounts of water that the factory uses the produce the rain, snow and clouds. Meanwhile the outside parts have cloud and wind based platforming, with gimmicks including bouncy clouds and large fans.[10]
The Hub
The Hub is the Hub level for Top Down. It takes place in an underground factory deep below the Grove.[11]
Unique Features
- A clientside cursor icon that hovers above the player's character on their screen to make it easier to tell who they are.[12]
- An icon that appears above a player's head if they have low health so that other players can pass by rings for them to collect.[13]
- New custom Sprites for the characters.[14]
- An unknown fourth playable character.
- A Hub World.
- A wait map called Grove.
- A new HUD.[15]
- Custom Power Ups.
- Two Player which replaces Splitscreen.[16]
Gameplay Changes
- Characters have been slowed down to accommodate the new perspective.
- A Health system instead of players dropping all their rings when they get hit.
- Sonic's Thok has been replaced with a Jump Thok.
- When a Power Up such as Invincibility or a Shield is gained it is given to all players.
- Lives are shared between all players.
