MAP92, Desolate Twilight Zone, is the third Match level in Sonic Robo Blast 2 v1.09.4. It is a small and open desert-themed stage with few rings that debuted in the May/June 2005 OLDC as Nocturnal Sahara Zone, where it placed first with a score of 9.14. It was subsequently renamed and added to the game. Its layout is circular, with a tall centerpiece structure around which two outdoor rooms are wrapped.

Power-ups

Weapon rings

There are two Rail Rings and an Explosion Ring. The Rail Rings are on the bottom floor on opposite sides of the map, out in the open. The Explosion Ring is floating above the quicksand pit next to the central tower and the tunnel through the central tower.

Random Monitor

The random monitor is located on the upper floor of the central tower, accessible by the diagonal spring on the island in the quicksand pit, or by the vertical spring in the tunnel under the tower.

Techniques

Most of the effective techniques on this map do one of two things. They keep the player moving through high traffic areas for a sufficient number of targets to choose from, and control the weapon rings on the map to ensure a healthy advantage over one's opponents.

Around the world

A player can run around the level in either a clockwise or counterclockwise fashion. There are no particular advantages or disadvantages from one to the other, but players should change up their rotation often to ensure that they do not become too predictable. Predictable targets attract rail rings like magnets.

Also, to change things up, players should sometimes take a trip through the central tower from either direction and go grab the random monitor, located at the top. Going through the central tower is also an effective way to get an opponent with a rail ring off one's tail.

Ring hog

While the player is looping around the map, every effort should be made to grab rail rings, even if the player already has two or three minutes of weapon time left. By taking every rail ring as it spawns, no opponent has a chance to grab one for themselves, and thus the player who "hogs" all the weapon rings will be given a serious advantage.

Also, whenever feasible, the bomb ring should be grabbed. The easiest way to grab this ring without exposing oneself to ring fire is to run through the central tower from the opposite side of where the bomb ring floats over the quicksand, run over the edge, grab it and thok/glide/fly to make it to solid ground. That way there is no issue with falling and possibly getting shot while mired in quicksand.

Trivia

  • The shaft leading up to the Random Monitor actually has upwards wind attributed to it. This can be demonstrated by Tails flying up the shaft.
