MAP91: Thunder Citadel Zone | |
MAP91, Thunder Citadel Zone, is the second Match level in Sonic Robo Blast 2 v1.09.4. It takes place in a castle and its surrounding outside area, and is one of the most complex and large Match stages in SRB2, consisting of many different interconnecting rooms and areas. It was the first stage designed with the new Match weapon system used from v2.0 onwards in mind, although this version still uses the old weapon system. It was entered into the December 2004 OLDC, where it scored 7.50, and has since been included in the SRB2 Match rotation.
Power-ups
Weapon rings
There are 2 Rail Rings, an Explosion Ring, and an Infinity Ring. One Rail Ring is located in the bedroom on the far right, on the bed itself, and the other is located in the drain of the moat in front. The Explosion Ring is past the crushers in the dungeon. The Infinity Ring is in a small passage upstairs from the bedroom. Jump in the small stream of water, and follow it downstream. The Ring is located at a waterfall in the passage.
Random Monitor
The random monitor is located in the tower on the outside. To reach it as Sonic, the room next to the tower has a passage of crushers. Pass those and take the spring up.
Techniques
Level loop
An effective tactic to rack up the most points is to move in a loop around the map, starting from either entrance of the castle, and working one's way to the other. There are several reasons why this is effective.
- First, it runs the player through all of the high-traffic areas in the map, giving the player a much larger number of targets to choose from.
- Second, it runs the player by one of the rail ring spawns, located in a bedroom off in the corner of the largest room.
- Third, many other players will be traveling through the narrow hallways, making them easy targets for a rail ring.
- And finally, it allows a player to move around the level in a smooth and continuous fashion, while achieving the above three points.
Tight spaces, long hallways
Players are much more effective if they use the terrain to their advantage. Some general suggestions for how to use the level layout strategically.
Do
- Use the rail ring for easy points against players running through the hallways. It is much harder to dodge a Rail Ring in a long enclosed space, such as within one of the three major hallways in this map.
- Use ring-fire to trap players who enter one of the side rooms. This makes things especially difficult for an opponent to escape without being hit.
Don't
- Run in a straight line down one of the hallways. This makes for easy pickings for any player with a Rail Ring.
- Stay in a side room for any longer than it takes to retrieve the item within and get out. Staying in cramped quarters for too long will allow the player moving around in a more open area much more leeway to fire at the poor soul hiding inside the room.
