MAPCC, Aero Shrine Zone Act 1, abbreviated as ASZ1, is the first act of Aero Shrine Zone, the fifth zone in Blue Heaven. It takes place in a castle in the sky and features many Buzzes that threaten to knock you into pits. This level originally appeared in the Official Level Design Contest of January/February 2006, which it won with a score of 8.78. This is the third-highest score achieved by a Single Player map in the OLDC, after 9.50 for Nuclear Sunset Zone Act 2 and 9.58 for Dumbventure. The level took a little more than a week to create.
Walkthrough
You start the level on a floating platform in the sky. Two Buzzes will start approaching you immediately, so kill or dodge them before moving on. Walk between the two patches of grass to reach a row of yellow springs that will propel you up to a higher ledge. Turn left and take the diagonal red springs to reach a much higher platform across the pit. Here the path splits: You can either walk across the bridge on the right side and enter the castle building or you can use the yellow springs to reach the top of the platform in the center.

Lower path
Walk across the bridge and through the passage in the castle building. You will reach another outdoor area with a bridge leading left. Follow it to enter a courtyard. Walk through the courtyard to reach a passage with the first Star Post, which leads into another courtyard. Turn right and walk through the courtyard to reach an exit with a row of diagonal yellow springs. Take the springs to reach a high platform in front of you. Walk across it and pass through a short tunnel. Turn right after the tunnel and continue along a platform that leads to a windmill. After the windmill, you will reach the second Star Post and a large pyramid-like building. Use the yellow springs to reach the first level of the building. Walk around the building to find a large pillar on the far left side. Use the springs at its base to reach the top, where a row of diagonal yellow springs will take you to the second level of the building. Here the paths rejoin.
Upper path
Use the yellow springs to reach the top of the platform and then use the diagonal yellow springs on there to reach another platform to the left. Another row of diagonal springs will take you to a ledge with a castle entrance. Walk through it to enter a bridge that leads through a courtyard. At the end of the bridge, a row of diagonal red springs will propel you up to a high ledge on the far wall. Turn left to reach a small passage with the first Star Post. You will enter another courtyard via a high-up ledge that leads around the left wall. Walk across it and then jump across a wooden platform to a ledge leading right. If you fall down, you must either backtrack to the beginning of the path split or continue on the lower path.
Walk across the ledge to reach an outdoor area. Jump down the platforms with checkered grass in front of you. Instead of jumping down to the lowest platform at the end, jump across it to another platform with checkered grass behind it. Jump to another platform to the right and walk to the end of it to find a yellow spring. Use the spring to reach the top of the pillar to the right, where another spring will propel you to a higher platform leading right. Follow it to the end and jump across a wooden platform to a higher platform with the second Star Post. In front of you is a large pyramid-like building, where the paths rejoin.
Final section
Walk around the building until you find a row of yellow springs. Use the springs to reach a ledge with another set of springs, which will take you to the top of the building. Use another row of springs to reach the top of the platform supported by pillars. Here a row of diagonal yellow springs will propel you to a bridge that leads out of the area. At the end, you will reach the third Star Post and enter another castle building. After a few turns and two staircases leading downwards, you will enter a courtyard with a fountain in the middle. Walk around it and walk up to the wooden door on the right side. It will open, revealing the Level End Sign.
Points of interest
Extra lives
- After reaching the high platform in the first room via the diagonal red springs, look to your left to see another row of diagonal red springs in the patch of grass. Use them to reach a high-up alcove in the tall tower, which contains two Super Ring Monitors and an extra life.
- Take the upper path at the first path split. In the first courtyard, jump across the wooden ledges leading around the left side of the tower in the center to reach an extra life.
- Take the upper path at the first path split. After the first Star Post, walk to the end of the ledge that you enter the second courtyard on. At the end, spindash through the cracked section in the left wall to find an extra life.
- In Easy and Normal difficulty, an extra life sits on top of the windmill on the lower path, behind the lowest blade. There are yellow springs on the backside of the windmill that you can use to reach the top.
- On the lowest floor of the large pyramid-like building where the path split rejoins, there is a group of five pillars on the left side. An extra life sits on top of the middle one. You can reach it by jumping down to it from a higher floor.
- Walk around to the backside of the large pyramid-like building where the path split rejoins. Jump down at the right end to reach a small ledge with an extra life. The ledge contains two red springs that you can use to reach a higher ledge with a yellow spring, which will propel you back up to the building.
- In the final courtyard, there is a cracked section of the wall high up to the left of the exit. As Tails or Knuckles, you can fly or climb up to it and land on the small recess in the wall. To reach it as Sonic, collect a Whirlwind Shield and use the Whirlwind jump to reach the wooden ledge on the right wall of the courtyard. From there, use another Whirlwind jump to reach the second level of the fountain in the center. Walk around the fountain and face towards the cracked section of the wall. Use a third Whirlwind jump to reach the small recess in the wall. Now spindash through the cracked wall to reach an alcove with the extra life.
Shields
- After taking the yellow springs at the start, turn left to see a ledge attached to the tall tower. Jump to it with your special ability and walk around it to find an alcove with an Attraction Shield.
- Take the lower path at the path split. In the room with the bridge before you enter the first courtyard, look to your left to see a narrow ledge with an Attraction Shield.
- Take the lower path at the path split. In the first courtyard, search the left side of the tower in the center for a cracked wall. Spindash through it to enter an alcove with an Armageddon Shield.
- Take the upper path at the path split. In the first courtyard, search the right side of the tower in the center for a cracked wall. Spindash through it to enter an alcove with a Whirlwind Shield.
- Take the upper path at the path split. After reaching the ledge at the top of the first courtyard, look down towards the left side of the room to see a pillar with a waterfall that feeds a basin of water. Jump down to it to find a Liquid Shield as well as a red spring to get you back up.
- Walk around to the backside of the large pyramid-like building where the path split rejoins and look for a cracked section in the wall. Spindash through it to find an Attraction Shield.
- At the first staircase after the third Star Post, you should see a high ledge with a Whirlwind Shield on the opposite wall. Jump to it from the top of the staircase to reach it.
- In Easy and Normal difficulty, the patch of grass on the far left side of the final courtyard contains an Attraction Shield. In Hard difficulty and above, it contains a ring monitor instead.
Invincibility
- After taking the yellow springs at the start, look in the patch of grass to your left to find an invincibility monitor.
- Take the lower path at the path split. In the first courtyard, an invincibility monitor is hidden between a group of bushes on a grassy platform in the center.
- On the highest level of the large pyramid-like building where the path splits rejoins, an invincibility monitor sits on top of a platform in the corner.
Super Sneakers
- A Super Sneakers monitor can be found at the start of the bridge that leads to the third Star Post and the final castle building.
Emblem locations
- Sonic: Walk around to the backside of the large pyramid-like building where the path split rejoins. Jump down at the right end to reach a small ledge with an extra life. On that ledge, look for a cracked section in the wall. Spindash through it to enter an alcove with the emblem.
- Tails: Take the lower path at the path split. In the room with the bridge before you enter the first courtyard, fly below the bridge. Underneath the entrance to the courtyard, you will find a small ledge with the emblem.
- Knuckles: In the first room, there is a small alcove high up in the castle wall, in the corner to the left of the lower path's exit. Climb up to it to find the emblem inside.
