MAPC1, Dark Palisades Zone Act 2, abbreviated as DPZ2, is the second act of Dark Palisades Zone, the first zone in Blue Heaven. It continues the nighttime Greenflower theme. It mainly consists of a huge central area, which was once so large and complex it had to be toned down to work correctly in the Software renderer. At the end of this act, a teleporter leads to a boss fight against the Egg Mobile. This level originally appeared in the Official Level Design Contest of July/August 2005, which it won with a score of 8.33.

Walkthrough

First section

You start in front of a large rock structure and the entrance to a cave. Walk through the cave to reach the main central area of the level. From here, you can either walk through the tunnel to go the lower path, or climb up the ledges to go the upper path.

Lower path

After the tunnel, jump over the waterfall and continue along the path. Use the diagonal yellow springs to propel you to the next platform, and continue walking along the path until you reach a large lake with a bridge. Charge a spindash towards the rings in the middle in the water, and release it to water-skip across to a low platform on the other side. Jump up the next ledge and take the yellow springs up to the top of the cliff, where the paths meet.

Upper path

After climbing up the ledges, walk to the other side of the platform. Jump onto one of the diagonal yellow springs to propel yourself on top of the nearby tree. From there, do a running jump to the floating platform to your left. This and the next floating platform will crumble shortly after you land on them, so jump off each platform quickly to get to the high ledge below. Take one of the diagonal yellow springs there to propel yourself to the next ledge, and then use the next ledge's diagonal yellow springs to propel yourself onto the ledge going over the lower path. Run and jump to the next ledge, and do the same for the next few ledges until you reach the bridge. Cross the bridge to the other side, where the paths meet.

Second section

Turn left and jump up the ledge. Walk up to the next cliff; to the right is a diagonal yellow spring on a raised block platform. Jump on the spring and then stop moving, as it will lead to two other springs, each of them propelling you higher until you reach the top of the cliff, where you will find the first Star Post.

After the Star Post, turn left and go across the bridge through the opening in the wall until you reach the next area. From here, go left. Jump up the ledges to the top, where you will find the entrance to a tunnel. Walk through the tunnel, which takes you to another outside room on the other side. From here you can either continue forward and go around the wall to the right, or you can go right into the tunnel as a shortcut. In both paths you must jump over a river; if you fall into this river, you will be dragged into the tunnel (if you weren't in it already), where you will find yellow springs to take you back up.

Both paths meet where a large tree is visible; if you went through the tunnel, the tree will be visible to your right. Continue along the path in the direction of the tree, going around or under the large pillar and ledge. Jump down the ledge and continue until you reach a raised platform. You must jump onto this platform, and from there jump to the next two platforms. After these are a set of floating platforms which cross the central area of the level. Jump up the first three platforms, taking care not to fall down. The third platform has a set of diagonal yellow springs, which will propel you to the last floating platform. From here, you can jump onto the next cliff. where you will find the second Star Post.

Third section

After the Star Post, turn left at the tree. Walk along the passage, going past the lake and under the bridge, until you reach the two trees. Turn left to find the entrance to a cave. Jump up the ledges in front of you, turn right, and continue walking until you see a set of yellow springs to your left. Use these springs to propel yourself onto the ledge. From here, you can take one of two paths:

Lower path

Go into the tunnel ahead, jumping up the next two ledges along the way through it. You will reach a small room with a ledge with diagonal yellow springs on top. Jump onto this ledge and use the springs to propel yourself to the higher up ledge. This will take you to a large room with a long winding platform in the middle. Jump onto this platform, and go right towards the large opening. If you fell in the lake, you can get yourself back up using the few blue springs surrounding the long winding platform. At the end of the long winding platform, you must perform a spindash-jump towards the ledge to the right of the opening, where the two paths merge.

Upper path

Jump onto the diagonal spring to your right and stop moving, so that it will take you to another spring, which in turn propels you onto another platform. From here, you can either continue through the tunnel to your left, or jump through the waterfall to your right (which takes you into the lake room in the lower path). If you take the tunnel, you will have to jump up several ledges, and fall down several more. When you reach the room with the pillar, jump down and go through the tunnel to your right. Jump over the water to the ledge on the other side, where the path rejoins with the lower path.

Ending and boss

Cross the gap between the two waterfalls by jumping to the nearby ledge and then to the platform on the other side. From here, simply jump to each platform up the river until you reach the last one. Take the diagonal yellow springs on it through the wall of water to land back outside. If you fell into the river, you will be dragged back down the river to the waterfall, where you will find a diagonal yellow spring to help you back up to the ledge. When you are outside, go to your left to find a teleporter, which will send you to the boss arena. In Race mode, there will be a Level End Sign in front of you instead.

The boss fight here is a standard fight against the Egg Mobile. There are three rings in the corners as well as a circle of rings in the central platform, in case you lost any rings from the level itself while fighting against Eggman. After defeating the boss, an Egg Capsule will rise from the central platform.

Points of interest

Extra lives

  • An extra life is hidden in the trunk of the tree in the main central area.
  • At the lake with the bridge after the main central area, there are three small pillars protruding from the lake. An extra life sits on the shortest pillar, which can be reached from the nearby ledge with yellow springs.
  • In the second section of the level, an extra life is hidden in the river, surrounded by several rings.
  • Also in the second section of the level, an extra life can be found outside, on the top of a set of ledges next to the river.
  • In the same area as Tails' emblem, instead of going to the large platform, go round the left side of it and take the tunnel to your right. Follow the path from there, which takes you onto a ledge outside and into another tunnel, where you will find an extra life.
  • In the cave after the second checkpoint, go up the springs to the upper path. At the top, turn around and go to the wall behind you to find a cracked wall. Spindashing through this wall reveals a small tunnel with an extra life.
  • On the path to Sonic's emblem, an extra life can be found next to the two diagonal red springs, surrounded by a circle of rings.
  • In the tunnel on the upper path in the caves, an extra life is hidden behind the pillar in the room before the river.

Shields

  • At the start, look for a cracked wall in the pillar to your left. Spindashing through this wall reveals a Liquid Shield surrounded by a circle of rings.
  • A hidden cave behind the first waterwall in the main central area contains a Liquid Shield as well as four Super Ring Monitors.
  • Also in the main central area, a Whirlwind Shield can be found in plain sight on a pillar in the middle of the upper path.
  • Next to Tails' emblem is an Attraction Shield, hidden between four bushes.
  • In the lake room near the end of the level, a Whirlwind Shield sits on top of the pillar to the left of the long winding platform. To get there as Sonic, go to the ledge where Knuckles' emblem would be found via the upper path. From there, you can jump and thok to the pillar with the Whirlwind Shield.

Super Sneakers

  • At the start of the upper path in the main central area, a Super Sneakers monitor is hidden between a group of four bushes near the springs.

Invincibility

  • In the second section of the level, go to the tree after the river. From there walk to the wall opposite the cliff to find a cracked wall. Spindashing through this wall reveals a small cave with an invincibility monitor, surrounded by a circle of rings.
  • At the second Star Post, an invincibility monitor is hidden behind the tree nearby.

Emerald token locations

Token #1
Near the end of the level, go down into the gap between the two waterfalls, and look for a small hole in the wall underwater. Spindash through this hole to enter a small tunnel. At the end of this tunnel, take the springs up out of the water. You will enter a small room outside, where the token can be found sitting on the platform in the middle.

Emblem locations

  • Sonic: In the cave after the second checkpoint, instead of taking the yellow springs up, turn right and follow the path ahead. Here you will find an opening back outside. Use one of the yellow springs to propel yourself up to the ledge, and take the next set of yellow springs to reach the platform outside. From here, walk around the large pillar to find a set of diagonal yellow springs. Take one of these springs to propel yourself onto one of the trees. Jump onto the other tree, and then onto the nearby ledge. Walk to the other side of the ledge to find some diagonal red springs. These springs will propel you up to a high up floating platform. From here, you can jump onto the large pillar, and use the diagonal yellow springs to propel yourself to the higher up ledge. When you reach this ledge, you will see a row of three bushes. Behind the middle bush is a bustable wall, which when destroyed reveals a hidden tunnel. Inside this tunnel is the emblem.
  • Tails: In the second section of the level, go to the tree after the river. You will find a yellow spring underneath it, as well as a yellow spring on a nearby branch. Use these springs to propel yourself up through the tree's leaves to get on top of it. Jump onto the nearby cliff and go to the large platform. Spindash through the cracked wall at the front of the large platform. This reveals a small room inside it with a yellow spring, which you can use to get on top of the platform. On the top of this platform is the emblem.
  • Knuckles: In the cave after the second checkpoint, take the upper path at the start. Go through the tunnel until you see an opening to your right. This takes you to a high ledge in the lake room, on top of which is the emblem.
